Long and luscious, short and street: follow our step-by-step guide to create your favourite looks with Wella's passionate professionals.

    LOOK CREATION - EVAGELIA

    Look created with

Look created with WELLAFLEX Fullness collection

    STEP 1 - Consultation

    • Evagelia's hair is naturally quite fine and very straight. She used to have her hair lightened and tinted with harsh colorants so as a result her hair is not as glossy and healthy looking as it could be
    • After thoroughly assessing the quality and texture of her hair, we have decided on a modern but classic look using styling products from the Wellaflex Fullness Collection that will primarily allow us to create a beautiful full look but will also put back a lot of that lost shine
    • Before styling, I also colored Evagelia's hair with Wellaton Van Gogh Shade 100 to give a soft, warm, healthy looking color all over. This was followed by the color Therapy Serum to treat the hair after coloring to make sure it stays soft, supple and as beautiful as if it had never been colored

Step 2 - Apply the Mousse

    • After gently towel drying your hair, squeeze a tennis-ball sized amount of Wellaflex Fullness for Fine Hair Mousse into your hand, adjust the amount of product depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Divide the ball of mousse into two and apply each half to the opposite sides of you head. This helps to make sure you distribute the product as evenly as possible which will lead to a more even-looking, finished result
    • To make sure that the roots get a really even application I prefer to keep the mousse in the palm of my hand and run the teeth of a wide-toothed comb through it and then gently comb the mousse through the hair
    • Comb the hair right through to the ends in smooth gentle strokes. Be as gentle as you can here because hair is more fragile when wet and therefore more prone to breaking which is the last thing you want if you have fine hair - every strand is precious!

    Step 3 - Blow Dry

    • Really spend some time with this step. A good blow dry really is the one of the most important foundations you can give your look
    • When doing this at home, think about the direction(s) you want your hair to lie in when it is finished. The direction in which you dry your hair and the technique you use will give your end look the right movement and the Mousse we have already applied will give the finished look volume and ultra strong hold. If you are trying to create a really sleek look where the volume is minimised blow dry the hair in the direction you want the finished look to sit. If, as we are here, you are wanting to create volume blow dry in the opposite direction to the way you will eventually part the hair and this will create more lift
    • I used a vented brush to give the crown lightness and volume. A round bristle brush would pull the hair too tight at the root which in this case would make it sit too closely to the head
    • With gentle upward brush strokes I scooped up sections of hair with a slight turn of the brush handle and always pointed the concentrator nozzle on the attachment along the shaft to smooth down the cuticle and boost shine
    • Don't over-dry your hair at this point, you should stop when the hair is just dry as a little moisture will help when tonging

Step 4 - Section and Shape

    • When the hair is dry part in the opposite direction to the one it was dried in earlier, i.e. if you dried your hair with a parting to the right flip it over and part it on the left. This technique gives the crown more spring and fullness
    • We wanted to create a glamorous statement look here that will really shows off the shine and color of Evagelia's hair so we opted for a deep side parting keeping the top sections of the style smooth and glossy
    • With a wide toothed comb I parted the hair and clipped one section to the side out of the way while I got to work on the rest of the head

    Step 5 - Tong

    • To create the curl for this look I used a medium barrelled curling tong that had been heating up while I prepped the hair
    • Taking a section of hair roughly two inches wide in one hand, hold the tong in the other with the clip held open on the spring
    • As though you were using irons allow the tong to close on the section and slide it down to the end of the hair. At this stage it is entirely up to you how close to the end of the hair you go down to - leaving a few inches out of the curl gives a relaxed rock-chick feel to the look, curling the ends under makes it look more classically glamorous
    • Starting each curl section a few inches down from the root keeps the look glamorous and sophisticated rather than all-over curly
    • Then with the tong held almost vertically upright simply rotate the tong until you approach the crown of the head and hold the hair wrapped around the hot tong for a few seconds. To create a really natural look alternates the direction that you rotate the tong. If you wrap one strand around the tong curling away from the face try wrapping the next so it curls in towards the face
    • Pulse the handle of the tong clip ever so slightly a few times to loosen the curl away from the barrel and carefully slide out the tong. As the hair cools the curls will fall into relaxed natural-looking waves rather than firm ringlets

    LOOK CREATION - MARLA

    Look created with

Look created with WELLAFLEX Fullness collection

    Step 1 - Consultation

    • Marla's hair was super fine, almost like baby hair so we did not have much to work with. Regular trims and maintaining this length will keep the hair in good condition and prevent it from looking too wispy.
    • Marla's natural hair color is a lovely brown which we made even richer with a deep shade from Wellaton. This all-over color and the conditioning post color serum will make the final style really glossy and gorgeously healthy looking.
    • I wanted to do something simple with Marla, she has such a beautiful face and I really wanted to show off her features so I went with something really chick and natural looking. Quite a lot of work went into creating the volume but if you only saw the end result you would think it was all natural!

Step 2 - Applying the Product

    • Starting off with damp hair, I dispensed just a couple of pumps of the Wellaflex Fullness Collection Thickening Lotion into my hand and combed it through the entire length of the hair
    • You can either run a comb through the product before applying it to the hair or rub your palms together and apply with your hands flattened to the head
    • This time I used a finer toothed comb due to the finer texture of the product consistency and also the nature of Marla's hair. Her hair texture and length meant it was much less likely to break with combing and as her hair was so fine it was even more crucial to get a completely even application. Any patches of product would have made the end style really uneven and counteract the even full natural look we are after
    • The Thickening Lotion, as with all of the products in the Wellaflex Fullness Collection, is formulated to coat every strand so that the overall effect is of fuller, natural looking hair even if you were born with fine hair

    Step 3 - Blow Dry

    • Using the vented blow-dry brush I pointed the nozzle of the hair dryer up into the roots to fix in some volume
    • After blow drying each section I pinned it up in a very loose gentle roll. In a similar way to allowing curls to cool this gave the blow dry a more lasting effect and prevented the damp lower sections of the hair from dragging down the roots
    • I wanted this look to be really straight and sleek so I blow dried all the way to the ends of the hair using the vent brush and a concentrator nozzle on the hair dryer
    • In the mid to lower sections of hair I angled the dryer along the strand to add extra shine

    Step 4 - Straightening

    • When the hair was fully dried I straightened the mid to lower sections of the hair leaving the roots and crown untouched to retain as much of that volume as possible
    • Make sure you always keep the irons moving when trying this at home as if they are left in one place on the hair, they can create an unnatural looking kink that can be difficult to smooth out
    • There are all sorts of different looks and textures you can achieve with straightening irons from completely straight graphic looks to waves, flicks and even curls
    • For a natural but sleek look try angling the irons inwards very slightly as you get near the ends of the hair. This finishes the look off with a very subtle curve that can add to the illusion of fullness by disguising fine ends

Step 5 - Finish and Spray

    • I combed the top layers of hair very very lightly to give a smooth, polished overall look without flattening out the root volume and impression of fullness
    • When you are happy with your finished style spray lightly with Wellaflex Fullness for Fine Hair Hairspray. Make sure you hold the nozzle at least 20cm away from your hair and be careful to not overload with product. Using the right amount will help your look to last all day without stopping it from swinging and moving which is part of the beauty of this look
    • This spray is specifically designed for people with naturally fine hair and it also boost the shine

    LOOK CREATION - KATHARINA

    Look created with

Look created with WELLAFLEX Fullness collection

    Step 1 - Consultation

    • Katharina's hair is not as fine as Marla's but it is wonderfully long. Hair of this length can become heavy and that weight really pulls the volume out of the style and makes it look finer than it really is. If your hair is this long and you want to create a really full look it is important to start off with products that have been specially formulated to do just that, and that deliver long lasting ultra strong hold. The Wellaflex Fullness for Fine Hair is ideal.
    • Katharina's hair is naturally very red; you can see that from her beautiful fair skin and coloring. Reds are really hot this season and as we know she suits the color we opted for a really vibrant, rich dark red from Wellaton.
    • As damage can be a cause of concern for very long hair it is important to take care when coloring. Wellaton now delivers color without compromising on the healthy look for the hair.
    • I wanted to show off the stunning length and color of Katharina's hair so I will be creating a romantic down look with boosted fullness.

Step 2 - Applying the Product

Hair health depends on porosity or the ability of your hair to absorb moisture. Porosity is directly related to the condition of the cuticle layer (overlapping of cells) and is rated as normal, low or high.

    • This look was created by first combing Wellaflex Fullness for Fine Hair Mousse through towel dried hair with a wide toothed comb
    • I applied the mousse mainly to the roots and then combed right through to the ends. I did this rather than apply product directly though the entire length because it is at the routes that the weight of the hair really takes its toll so this is where the product needs to work hardest
    • When applying product it is always best to start off with small amounts and then add more only if needed. Adding product is easy but removing it if you use too much is very difficult!

    Step 3 - Blow Dry

    • To dry Katharina's hair I used a vented brush again gently lifting the sections of hair as I dried
    • As with the application of Mousse I mainly concentrated on the roots to build in that fullness working with the product as I dried
    • Using a concentrator nozzle attachment on the hair dryer allows you to really direct the hot air exactly where you want it and in the right direction. In this case that direction is upward to help counteract the gravitational pull when the hair is loose
    • Once the roots were almost dry I dried the rest of the hair quite quickly mainly using my hands to make sure the root lift was not pulled straight out

    Step 4 - Tong & Pin

    • When the hair was fully dry I started working on sections from the centre parting outwards and down the head
    • To do this at home part your hair in the middle and take a thin slice of hair parallel to the parting
    • Open the clip of the curling iron and close it onto the section of hair then slide the tong with the hair held between the barrel and the clip until you reach the ends. Then holding the curling tong horizontally, parallel to the floor wind up the section of hair until you reach the crown
    • Be very careful not to get the hot barrel too close to your skin but this time make sure that the cur begins from as close to roots as possible as it will be pulled down by the weight of the longer lengths
    • Pulse the clip slightly and slide out the tong but this time hold the still formed curl in one hand secure the rolled hair tightly to the head with a long sectioning clip
    • Then repeat this entire process with the next section from the parting and work your way down and around to the nape of the neck until all of the hair has been curled and pinned into place
    • Then I suggest you read a book until your hair is completely cool! Allowing the curl to cool in place like this gives the style even more longevity

    Step 5 - Finish & Spray

    • Release the clips starting in the reverse order that you pinned them in, so start from the nape of the neck and work up towards your parting. Working in this way stops the unpinned hair from getting tangled up in any clips below it. It sounds obvious but this can be a common mistake that results in destroying your creating while you wrestle with knots!
    • The finish is again a matter of preference. I wanted to create a very romantic, Pre-Raphaelite look on Katharina so with my fingers I shook the curls out little to loosen them
    • When I was happy with the overall look I gave the whole style a light spray with Wellaflex Fullness for Fine Hair Spray to give ultra strong hold and a beautiful shine

LOOK CREATION - BLOW DRIED WAVES

    Look created with

Look created with WELLAFLEX Heat Styling collection

    Step 1

    • For this next look we created defined ringlet curls to frame the face. To recreate this look at home start off again with the Wellaflex Heat Creations Mousse, combing it gently and evenly through towel dried hair and lightly blow-dry with your fingers.
    • The model here had very short hair that was quite fine in texture therefore we applied a small amount of Wellaflex Heat Creations Mousse to the comb before applying it to the hair. This meant we avoided overloading the hair and ensured an even coverage. If you have longer or thicker hair adjust the amount of product accordingly. For longer lengths you can apply the product directly with your fingers if you find that easier.
    • Aim for a light yet even coverage for the best styling results and also the best protection against heat damage.

    Step 2

    • Take a round brush with a small diameter. This will create tighter, more defined waves than a larger round brush. I like to use natural bristle brushes as they grip the hair well giving you extra control while styling and also make the finished look shinier than you can achieve with synthetic brushes.
    • Start at the top of your head and work down until all sections are dried and styled. To make the look more current you can alternate the direction of each wave; some towards the face and some back toward the nape of the neck. This not only creates great volume and shape but also gives the finished look a more interesting texture. It can take a little practise to perfect this look but with Wellaflex Heat Creations Mousse you can style with the confidence that your hair is protected.
    • The polymers in the mousse won't be destroyed by the heat of your hair dryer.

    Step 3

    • To create a more glamorous, modern look I started each wave a little way down the length leaving the very top smooth and sitting close to the head. You can also update the look by brushing out the curls very lightly for a more relaxed, easy feel.
    • The look is then held with a light application of Wellaflex Heat Creations Hairspray to smooth down any flyaway hairs and add extra hold.

LOOK CREATION - SMOOTH & SLEEK

    Look created with

Look created with WELLAFLEX Heat Styling collection

    Step 1

    • There is so much you can do with just a hairdryer - it really is the best way to start your styling transformation. You can change the shape and direction of your style, make it smooth, volumised or bouncy with just this one tool and the right brush and technique. Sometimes you don't need anything else than a really good blow dry.
    • Key to achieving a really good blow dried look is the right preparation. This look was created by first combing a little Wellaflex Heat Creations Straightening Cream through towel dried hair with a wide toothed comb to protect the hair from the heat of the drier and also give the finished style more hold.

    Step 2

    • Using a concentrator nozzle attachment on the hair dryer you can add movement into the hair with a medium sized round brush. This type of brush grips the hair well and allows you to shape it just how you want. The Straightening Cream protects the hair from permanent heat damage as you dry.
    • To give the hair the best possible shine always angle your hair dryer nozzle down the hair shaft towards the ends. This helps to smooth down the cuticle and allows the hair to reflect light better.

    Step 3

    • When your style is complete finish with a light spray with the Wellaflex Heat Creations Hairspray. It is important that the hair is not overloaded with product and should be allowed to move and swing beautifully. The Wellaflex range is designed to allow hair to move but then return back into shape.

    LOOK CREATION - GRAPHIC BOB

    Look created with

Look created with WELLAFLEX Heat Styling collection

    Step 1

    • Starting off with damp hair, I combed a little of the new Wellaflex Straightening Cream through the mid to lower lengths of the hair and blow dried it smooth with a round styling brush.
    • As well as a good hairdryer, investing in a quality hairbrush is a great first step to getting beautiful end results. There are many different sorts that can all be used in different ways. I have several that I always keep with me - a natural bristle round brush that grips the hair really well and gives you great control. Natural bristles can add more shine than synthetic ones. The other type useful for creating sleek styles is a paddle brush. This allows you to keep large sections of hair flat, right to the ends. It's best to experiment and find out which you find easier to use and what works best with your hair.

    Step 2

    • When the hair is dried throughout (wet hair is more easily damaged when in direct contact with heat) I sectioned the hair and secured it with clips before straightening.
    • Make sure you always keep the irons moving when trying this at home as if they are left in one place on the hair, they can create an unnatural looking kink that can be difficult to smooth out.
    • Start with the lower sections closest to the neck and then release the upper sections as you work. This keeps the unstraightened sections out of the way.

    Step 3

    • There are all sorts of different looks and textures you can achieve with straightening irons from completely straight looks to waves, flicks and even curls.
    • To really bring out the precision of this bob cut I gave the hair one texture all over for a dramatic, graphic look.
    • When you are happy with your finished style spray lightly with Wellaflex Heat Creations Hairspray. Make sure you hold the nozzle at least 20cm away from your hair and be careful to not overload with product. Using the right amount will help your look to last all day without stopping it from swinging and moving which is part of the beauty of this look.

    LOOK CREATION - DEFINED CURLS

    Look created with

Look created with WELLAFLEX Heat Styling collection

    Step 1

    • Blow dry your hair using your fingers for a more natural finish. Using a diffuser attachment on your hairdryer will boost any natural curl you hair has as well as build in movement and volume with the mousse. Don't over-dry your hair at this point, you should stop when the hair is just dry as a little moisture will help when tonging.

    Step 2

    • Heat up a medium-sized curling tong and wrap small sections of hair around the barrel. My tip for this look is to make sure you don't start the curl too high up on the head. Keeping the roots smoother and flatter than the rest of the length will give you an overall look that is much more glamorous and modern.
    • Hold the curl in place around the tong to allow the heat to get to work. Very gently release from the barrel of the tong and try not to shake the section until it has cooled al little. If your hair is particularly long or heavy you can pin the section, still curled, as soon as you remove the tong and allow it to cool completely. This extra setting time will help prevent the curl from dropping.

    Step 3

    • Release the clips (if using) and gently shake out the curl. This look is meant to be relaxed and playful so you can “deconstruct” the look as much as you like. The styling products in the Wellaflex Heat Creations range are specifically designed to work with heat. If there are any sections that need tweaking you can always go back over them with the heated curling tong.
    • When you are happy with the look, spray lightly with Wellaflex Heat Creations Hairspray to finish the style and give it lasting hold.
